THE BARRON CANYON
Our Barron Canyon trip takes us beyond the eastern gateway of Algonquin Park to a wilderness area of spectacular rugged beauty.
First we explore the canyon from its rim, over 100 m from the river below. The views are breathtaking as we look down the red chasm walls and across the seemingly endless evergreen forest. We paddle through small streams and lakes, stop for a swim and shower under a waterfall. Ultimately we reach the canyon, with the red rock cliffs towering above us, emphasizing the grandeur of this natural wonder.

Gentle currents pull us over crystal clear waters, past sandy beaches and alongside rugged forests. We explore the land of the elusive moose, the Windigo (a demonic native spirit), and the Natch (the site of one of Tom Thompson's most famous paintings). THE COULONGE RIVER
The Coulonge River flows through classic Canadian Shield scenery, dropping nearly 700 feet as it cascades over a series of thunderous waterfalls and wanders through runable rock studded rapids.
Meandering gravel swifts, class I to III rapids, beaver, plenty of fish, and Esprit's delicious fare are just some of the many delights to be experienced along your journey. Until 1984 the Coulonge served as a major highway for the logging industry. Thousands of tons of timber were floated down the river each year. Although the river is quickly returning to its original state, signs of the logging era are still present. Due to its colorful history, wilderness seclusion, picturesque campsites and excellent whitewater, the Coulonge River is one of our personal favorites.
