Explore the natural border between India and Nepal on the Kali Sarda River. The Kali Sarda is one of the most beautiful, yet least traveled, rivers of the Himalaya. Emanating near Mount Api in Nepal, the Kali Sarda winds its way through pristine wilderness, spectacular landscapes, beautiful canyons and secluded beaches. The Valley of the Kali was made famous as an essential trading route to Tibet. Ancient Tibetans used to trek 6-8 weeks across the Lipu Lekh pass to India in order to trade their wares. The years of trade between Tibet and India have left a strong Tibetan influence in this region. Aside from Tibetan traders, this trading route is also a well worn trek for pilgrims visiting the holy Mount Kailash and Mansarover Lake in Tibet. As we travel the Kali Sarda River and through the Kumaon region, we are able to enjoy the abundant bird life, challenging whitewater and relaxing swifts that gently pull us to our take out at the entrance to the Terai Jungle and Corbet National Park - home of the Bengal Tiger.
